LADY BEARS TENNIS BLANKS MEREDITH IN HOME OPENER, 9-0

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's tennis squad overpowered Division III opponent Meredith College, 9-0, in their home opener and second match of the 2018 season at Worthdale Park on Tuesday afternoon.

A pair of 8-0 sets in doubles led the Lady Bears (1-1) to a sweep before hitting the singles court, as senior Marilyne Kamegne (Yaoundé, Cameroon) and junior Adrijana Martic (Belgrade, Serbia) led the charge at the second flight. Also posting an 8-0 result were sophomore Helena Fekete (Belgrade, Serbia) and senior Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) at No. 3, while senior Daniela Vanko (Montreal, Quebec) and freshman Carmen Mantecon (Madrid, Spain) completed the sweep of the Avenging Angels (0-3) by winning at No. 1, 8-2.

The Lady Bears roll continued in singles, as all six flights recorded at least one bagel set in route to six victories. Fekete completed a perfect match, as she recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6.

Shaw return to the courts on Monday, Mar. 5 as they host the Lady Bulldogs of Barton College in a 2 p.m. start at Worthdale Park.
