WOMEN’S TENNIS PUNCH TICKET TO NCAA TOURNAMENT, LADY BEARS TO FACE MERCYHURST IN OPENING ROUND

RALEIGH, NC – Shaw University women's tennis has been chosen as the No. 7 seed in the Atlantic Region as the NCAA announced its field of 48 teams for the Division II Championships Tuesday evening. The Lady Bears will face No. 2 seed Mercyhurst University in the opening round hosted by the Lakers on Monday, May 1. Times are to be determined.

 

Shaw earned the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) tournament in a 5-3 victory over Chowan last weekend. The Lady Bears concluded the regular season with just one loss in the conference, Shaw earned a 21-2 overall record, 12-1 in the CIAA and 8-0 within the Southern Division.

 

The winners of the Atlantic Region bracket will advance to the NCAA Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla. May 10-13. 

 

The top teams in the Atlantic Region is listed below and will be advancing to the preliminary rounds of the 2017 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship.
