FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Shaw University women's tennis team remained unbeaten in conference division play after picking up a 9-0 win at Fayetteville State on Tuesday afternoon.
With the results, the Lady Bears are now 18-2 overall with an 11-1 mark in CIAA action. Meanwhile, the Lady Broncos drop to 3-8 with a 3-8 record in league play.
Shaw took all three doubles to begin the day. Daniella Vanko (Montreal, Quebec) picked up an 8-2 win against their No.1 doubles opponents, while Teodora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) and Helena Fekete (Subotica, Serbia) claimed an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Andrijana Martic (Belgrade, Serbia) and Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) registered an 8-0 victory at the No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the Lady Bears tallied a sweep on their way to the victory. Vanko started with an 8-0 win at the first slot while Jovanovic claimed an 8-1 win at the No. 2 singles. Kamegne secured an 8-0 at the No. 3 spot before Martic, Aleem and Fekte all recorded 8-0 victories at the No. 4, 5, 6 singles, respectively.
The Lady Bears will now prepare for the 2017 CIAA Women's Tennis Championship April 19-22 in Bowie, Md., on the campus of Bowie State University. Seeding's will be announced later on this week.
