RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University women's tennis team earned a 9-0 victory over Fayetteville State University (1-4, 1-4 CIAA) Tuesday afternoon at Worthdale Park. The victory gives the Lady Bears its fifth conference win and third-straight division win.
The Lady Bears (9-1, 5-0 CIAA, 3-0 Division) started the day by sweeping doubles. Daneila Vanko (Montreal, Canada) partnered with Marilyne Kamegne (Yaoundé, Cameroon) for an 8-0 conquest on court one. Toedora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) teamed up with Helena Fekete (Subotica, Serbia) for an 8-0 triumph on the second court, while Andrijana Martic (Belgrade, Serbia) teamed up with Simbiat Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) winning their doubles 8-0 on the third court.
In singles, the Lady Bears swept all six matches in their line-up. At the top Vanko started the team sweep by scoring 6-0, 6-0, while at the No. 2 singles, Jovanovic took a 6-1, 6-0 win. Kamegne and Martic both took 6-0, 6-0 victories and the No. 3 and No. 4 slots, respectfully.
At flight 5, Aleem captured her win 6-1, 6-0, followed by Fekete who finished up strong winning her match 6-0, 6-1 at the 6 singles.
Shaw returns to action Friday, Mar. 25 at 9 a.m. versus Chowan for the CIAA Women's Tennis Round-Up in Murfreesboro, NC.
