RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University women's tennis team rolled to the 7-2 divisional victory over Johnson C. Smith University at Lions Park on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Lady Bears move to 11-2 on the season and 9-1 in league play while the Lady Blue Bears fall to 5-13 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
The Lady Bears picked up back-to-back wins in doubles, starting with an 8-0 win by SU duo of Ana Ruzir (Zagreb, Croatia) and Teodora Jovanovic (Nis, Serbia) over Michaela Colvin and Kaylin Roman. Next, at the No.2, Marilyne Kamegne (Yaounde, Cameroon) and Andrijana Martic (Belgrade) took down Jasmine Riddick and Khadijah Battle before JCSU won the No. 3 by default.
In singles play, Sibiamt Aleem (Lagos, Nigeria) notched the first win for Shaw at No. 5, a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kaylin Roman. Ruzir defeated Battle, 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 slot before Jovanovic claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Riddick.
Martic earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Colvin as JCSU won the No. 6 slot by default.
Shaw will return to action on Sunday, April 3 as they travel to Murfreesboro, NC to face Virginia State University for a makeup contest. First serve is slated for 10 a.m.
