RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's and women's tennis teams will open their 2016 spring season Monday, Feb. 29 with road dual meets at North Carolina A&T State University. The Bears will begin their regular season at 2 p.m., followed by the women's at 4 p.m.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2007-2008 season.
The Lady Bears finished last season with an 18-4 overall record and 12-1 in conference play to capture the 2015 CIAA Championship in the process. Shaw concluded the great season with a 5-0 setback to Indiana (Pa.) in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament. This will be head coach Sunday Enitan's 19th season coaching the women's tennis team which returns four players from last season and adds three new freshman.
On the men's side, Shaw also captured the 2015 CIAA Men's Tennis Championship and finished the season with a 10-8 overall record and 7-2 mark in the conference. The Bears fell to West Liberty in the NCAA DII Atlantic Region Tournament to wrap up the 2015 season. Under coach Enitan, the Bears have two players returning from one season ago and welcome five newcomers.
Following Monday's action, Shaw will travel to Charlotte, NC to face Johnson Smith University at 1 p.m.
