Men's and Women's Tennis Wins CIAA Academic Award
PETERSBURG, Va. - Both the Shaw University men's and women's tennis teams captured the Academic Award for having the highest team GPA in each sport at the annual CIAA Spring Sports Award Ceremony held on the campus of Virginia State University Wednesday night.
In addition, Shaw University head tennis coach Sunday Enitan was named CIAA Women's Tennis Coach of the Year.
The Shaw men's tennis team claimed the Men's Tennis Academic Award with a 3.45 combined team grade point average (GPA). The women's team had a 3.50 GPA to claim the Women's Tennis Academic Award.
Enitan led the Lady Bears to a 22-1 record overall, with their sole loss coming to Division I Charleston Southern. Shaw finished the CIAA season with a perfect 16-0 mark. Six of the Lady Bears were named to the All-CIAA team on Tuesday.
The Bears and Lady Bears are competing in the CIAA Tennis Championships which began play Thursday on the campus of Virginia State. Both teams enter play as the number one seed.
