SHAW LADY BEARS TOP LINCOLN 1-0 IN WOMEN’S SOCCER

LINCOLN, Pa. – Freshman Alana Navarrette (Sun City, CA) scampered a long shot off of the goalies fingers into the net to lift the Shaw University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Lions of Lincoln (Pa.) University Wednesday afternoon.
The win improved Shaw to 2-4 overall and Lincoln (Pa.) drops to 3-5 on the year.


Navarrette's third goal on the season came at the 68th minute of the second half as freshman Melina Burnside (Colorado Springs, CO) was credited with the assist. The Lady Bears held a 9-8 advantage in shots and 6-5 shots-on-goal ratio. Freshman Melina Burnside (Colorado Springs, CO) was credited with the assist. Burnside scratched a team-best two shot on goals, following Navarrette, freshman Leslie Mendoza (Miami Beach, FL) and freshman Jacari Riggins (Miramar, FL) with one apiece.


Freshman Laura Regidor (Zamora, Spain) recorded five saves while LU's Lena Rodriquez also had five stops.


Offensively, the Lions were led by Alana Ward and Samanta Sosa both registered two shot on goals each.


Shaw will return to action Thursday, Sept. 21 at Carlow University for a matchup slated for 1 p.m.
