WILSON, N.C. – Freshman Jacari Riggins (Miramar, FL) and freshman Leslie Mendoza (Miami Beach, FL) fired back-to-back open shots from close range for the Shaw University women's soccer team but both shots were stopped by Barton's Haley Saul as the Lady Bears suffered a 3-0 setback to the Lady Bulldogs on a wet and soaked field Wednesday night.
For the game, Shaw (0-2-0) recorded six shots (four on goal) while Barton (1-2-0) tallied 20 shots and 11 on goal.
Riggins registered two shots on goal while Mendoza and junior Hannah Pealstrom (Aurora, IL) both added one shot on goal for the Lady Bears.
Jordyn Brown scored two goals for the Lady Bulldogs, including the game's first goal of the night at the 13:44 mark before Rebekah Brown had a header off the right cross sideline for one more with 39:13 before intermission.
Defensively, Shaw was led by freshman goalkeeper Shianna Duplantis (Charlotte, NC) who charted eight saves in 90:00 of action.
The Lady Bears will continue their road skid and look for their first win on the season when they head to Coker on Saturday, Sept. 9 with a kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
