SHAW BASKETBALL RESUMES DIVISION PLAY, TRAVELS TO LIVINGSTONE SATURDAY

RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's and women's basketball will resume Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division action this weekend when the Bears and Lady Bears travel to Salisbury, N.C. for a doubleheader at Livingstone College on Saturday, Feb. 9.

The women's game will start at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game approximately 20 minutes after the completion of the women's contest or at 4 p.m. inside New Trent Gymnasium.

Shaw women and Livingstone will meet for the second time this season. The Lady Bears suffered an 85-70 setback to the Lady Blue Bears on Jan. 28 in Raleigh.

The Lady Bears (6-17, 1-12 CIAA) will seek revenge against LC after coming off a 60-54 overtime win at Virginia State Wednesday. The victory snapped a five-game skid and earned Shaw its first road and conference win of 2018-19. Junior Macy Keen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds while senior KlinTisha Martin (Atlanta, GA) added 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

As for LC women, the Lady Blue Bears (6-16, 3-9 CIAA) fell 90-82 to Winston-Salem State on Feb. 2. Despite the loss, LC had five players score in double figures led by Adel Allen who had 26 points. Within the division standings, Shaw is 1-7 in seventh place while Livingstone stands 3-4 – good for fourth place.

For the men's contest, junior Amir Hinton (Philadelphia, PA) turned in a 43-point performance but it would not be enough in the Shaw's (11-11, 6-7 CIAA) setback at Virginia State Wednesday night. The Bears was outscored 42-34 in the first half and 54-53 in the second stanza. Junior Derrick Randolph (Chicago, IL) finished with a season-high 29 points, five assists and three steals.

The LC men's squad enters Saturday's contest with a 14-7 overall record and 7-5 mark in conference play. In fact, the Blue Bears have not lost since the first meeting between Shaw and LC back on Jan. 28 where the Bears claimed a 96-61 win. The Blue Bears' most recent win was against Winston-Salem State, where LC was able to pull out 83-82 edge on free throws from Roger Ray who finished with 33 points in the win.

In the South, the Bears are in second place with a 5-2 mark behind Livingstone is 5-1 for first place.
