
RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University senior KlinTisha Martin (Atlanta, GA), junior Macy Keen (Fort Lauderdale, FL), and freshman Amani Moxley (Moreno Valley, CA) all posted double double's in the Lady Bears 65-55 win over Paine College Wednesday night in non-conference action.
The win snaps a four-game skid for the Lady Bears who now stand 4-12 overall while Paine drops 1-15 on the year.
Keen led all scorers with 18 points and a game-high 21 rebounds, marking her seventh double-double of the season while Moxley recorded a career-high 16 points and 11 rebounds – first double-double of the season and Martin contributed 11 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, two blocks and two steals in the winning effort for Shaw.
Paine led 17-10 in the opening quarter but the Lady Bears started of the second stanza with a 13-2 run that put Shaw ahead 23-19 with 4:57 left in the first half. The Lady Bears scored the last six points to take a 30-23 lead at the break.
In the second half, Shaw used a 10-2 run to lead by 13 at the 5:44 mark. The Lady Lions cut the deficit to single digits capped off by a layup from Yasha Merritt but the Lady Bears would end up closing out the third quarter with a 7-3 scoring margin to lead 48-36 at the end of the third frame.
After producing an 11-0 run to pull within seven points and five turnovers committed by Shaw down the stretch, the Lady Bears were outscored by the Lady Lions 19-17 but managed to rattle off Paine by going to the free-throw line to close out the contest with a win.
For the contest, Shaw scored 40 of its 65 points in the paint while outscoring the Lady Lions 20-8 in second chances as the Lady Bears bench held a 38-18 frame.
Briona Andrews and Akirah Robinson both finished with 12 points each to lead Paine offensively.
Shaw will return to action Monday, Jan. 21 with a non-conference finale against Salem University. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
