RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's and women's basketball will continue play inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium Saturday, Jan. 12 when the Bulldogs of Bowie State University come into town for a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division doubleheader. The women's game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m.
As a community service initiative, the Shaw Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C) will be hosting a sock drive for those in need and has asked fans, alumni and supporters to bring new socks over a course of the men's and women's basketball home stretch to donate to the local homeless shelters in the Raleigh area.

Admission for the doubleheader is $15. Non-Shaw students with valid school ID is $10. All currently enrolled Shaw student is free with school ID.
The Lady Bears Tidbits
Shaw women's hoops battled tough against nationally ranked Virginia Union, including a 28-point performance from junior Macy Keen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) but the Lady Bears were unable to pull out the win, falling 75-55 Thursday night. The Lady Bears are 3-10 overall record and 0-5 in the CIAA this season. Shaw has three players averaging double figures in scoring led by senior Tahniya Sweatt (Pasadena, CA) with 17.8 ppg, senior KlinTisha Martin (Atlanta, GA) posting 15.2 ppg and Keen registering 11.5 ppg and a team-high 9.1 rebounds per outing.
The Bears Tidbits
Hoping to snap a six-game losing skid, Shaw men's hoops have struggled lately in particularly on the glass. The Bears fell 92-79 to Virginia Union in its last outing despite junior Amir Hinton's (Philadelphia, PA) 35 points in which he connected 28-of-32 from the free throw line. Hinton leads the team in scoring, averaging 32.4 points while junior Davon Dillard (Gary, IN) and junior DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) both contribute 12.1 and 11.7 points, respectively.
Bowie State's women head to Spaulding with a 5-0 record in the CIAA after defeating Saint Augustine's 60-52 Thursday night. The Bulldogs who are ranked No. 4 in the Atlantic Region post a 13-1 overall record and have two players averaging double figures in scoring led by Kyaja Williams (13.4) and Pere Alexander (12.0). BSU currently sits atop in the CIAA Northern Division and won its last 12 games.
With a 8-8 overall record and 4-1 mark in CIAA action, the Bowie State men's basketball team enters Saturday's game on a three-game winning streak after holding off Saint Augustine's, 58-48 on Jan. 10. The Bulldogs leading scorers is Cameron Hayes (12.8 ppg) while David Belle adds 12.6 points per game.
Saturday's doubleheader will mark the first meeting between Shaw and Bowie State for 2018-19. The last time the Bears met BSU was on Jan. 6 in Bowie, Md., where Shaw won 73-64. As for the women, the Lady Bears and Bulldogs met each other twice last season, including 79-51 setback for Shaw in the CIAA quarterfinal round of the basketball tournament on Feb. 27.
