FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Senior forward LaQuisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) scored 11 points, but she was the only Shaw University women's basketball player to score in double figures as it was held to 34.5-percent shooting in an 85-59 loss to Nova Southeastern University Tuesday afternoon in the Rick Case Arena.
The Sharks (6-4) shot 42-percent and hit 10-of-31 3-pointers as they built a 51-28 lead by intermission before Shaw (3-9) was outscored 34-31 in the second half. Alison Hughes paced NSU with 28 points, including 7-of-13 from long distance. Kayla Wright added 17 points and seven rebounds while Amanda Tivenius recorded 10 points and 11 rebounds and Cheray Saunders finished with 1 points and six assists.
The Lady Bears were outrebounded by the Sharks, 48-37 as NSU held a 19-8 advantage over Shaw in fast break points. Shaw hit just 11.1-percent (1-9) from the 3-point line, the Lady Bears did outscore NSU from the bench with a 31-15 scoring margin.
Shaw will take a 12-day break for the holidays before returning to action, hosting Barton College in a non-conference tilt on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 6 p.m.
