LADY BEARS WOMEN’S HOOPS HOST LENOIR-RHYNE IN HOME OPENER TUESDAY

RALEIGH, NC – After a week off a competition last week, the Shaw University women's basketball will return to action and look to add one in the winning column on Tuesday, Dec. 5 when the Lady Bears host Lenoir-Rhyne University in non-conference action for their home opener. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

The Lady Bears (1-4) have not seen action since Nov. 24 when they suffered a 71-68 setback to Cheyney. Shaw's game at William Peace was postponed to Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.

Offensively, senior LaQuisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) leads the charge with an average of 21.0 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per contest while senior KlinTisha Martin (Atlanta, GA) puts up 12.8 points and team-best 8.2 boards per game.

The Lady Bears notch 65.2 points per game, while shooting 36 percent from the floor and 31 percent from 3-point line. Currently, Shaw is shooting 65 percent from the foul line.

In five games, the Lady Bears are pulling down 41.2 rebounds a game. Taylor leads the team in steals (3.0) while senior Julia Cordova (Phoenix, AZ) averages 1.2 steals per game.

Lenoir-Rhyne (4-4) heads to Spaulding after suffering a 64-54 loss to Anderson last weekend. Madi Suddreth finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks.

The Bears average 72 points per game (42 percent from the floor) and 31 percent from behind the arc.  Suddreth leads the team in scoring with 20.0 points per game; she is also the team's leader in rebounds at 6.9. Kendal Toineeta and Kennedy Weigt register 12.5 and 10.4 points to round out the double digit scoring for the Bears.

LRU is 2-3 on the road this season.

Following Tuesday's game, Shaw will travel to William Peace Wednesday, Dec. 6 for a non-conference contest that was postponed last week. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
