RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University women's basketball team will look for their first win of the 2017-18 season on Saturday, Nov. 18 when the Lady Bears travel to Clark Atlanta University for a nonconference tilt with the Lady Panthers. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the L.S. Epps Gymnasium.
The Lady Bears (0-2) are coming off an 85-61 loss to Shepherd at the Winston-Salem State Conference Challenge on Nov. 12. Senior LaQuisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) scored 28 points and eight rebounds in the loss while senior Chelsea Long (Melbourne, FL) added 10 points and eight rebounds.
On the young season, Shaw is averaging 60.5 points per game, shooting 37.4 percent from the field and 62 percent from the free-throw line as a team. Defensively, the Lady Bears are averaging 36.5 rebounds per outing.
The Lady Panthers (0-1) are also in search of their first win of the 2017-18 season. CAU loss to Johnson C. Smith, 72-52 on Nov. 15. Lauren Turner scored a team-high 16 points and collected seven rebounds while Kiyanna Johnson added 11 points.
CAU is scheduled to play Augusta on Friday, Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. at home before their meeting with Shaw.
Following Saturday's clash with CAU, the Lady Bears will travel up north for a meeting with Washington Adventist on Monday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m.
