FORMER WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STANDOUT WARNER SHINES OVERSEAS

RALEIGH, NC – Former Shaw University women's basketball standout Verdine Warner (St. Vincent and The Grenadines, West Indies) recently capped off a successful professional season by earning the 2.Bundelisga League 2017 Player of the Year, Finals MVP, Center of the Year, Import Player of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year in addition to being named to the All-German 2.Bundesliga North First Team.

 

In her first season with Goettingen, Warner averaged a team-best 15.6 points, 13.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. The 6-foot-4 center shot 52 percent from the field, averaging roughly 27.1 minutes per outing.

 

Warner led the Goettingen team to a North title after registering a double-double, 12 points and 17 rebounds in the win against Wolfenbuettel on April 22. This 2016-17 season was Warner's second year playing professionally overseas.

 

The former CIAA Player of the Year was a member of the Lady Bears women's basketball team for two years (2013-14 and 2014-15) where she was named to the 2015 All-CIAA Team and 2015 CIAA POY. She helped the Lady Bears to a CIAA championship during the 2013-14 season while being selected to the All-CIAA Tournament Team.
