Lady Bears Fall To University Of The District Of Columbia

RALEIGH, NC - Shaw University Lady Bears fell to the University Of The District Of Columbia 86-75 in CC Spaulding Gymnasium on Tuesday, November 25, 2014. With the loss the Lady Bears drop to 3-3 on the season.


Verdine Warner led the Lady Bears with a game-high of 36 points and 15 rebounds, Micah Brooks added 14 points, and Jonitta Wallace chipped in with 11 points for the Lady Bears.

The Lady Bears committed 22 turnovers during the course of the game. The Firebirds were able to score 14 points off of the Lady Bears' turnovers.

 

The Firebirds came on the court strong. Telisha Turner hit two three-pointers, putting UDC on the board first. Warner was able to get Shaw on the board with two free throw shots, followed by a tip-in.  Turner would go on to hit seven more three-pointers in the first half, giving the Firebirds a 56-30 lead going into the second half.

 

UDC held a 25 point advantage over the Lady Bears in the start of the second half, but the Lady Bears would cut the deficit down to 11 points by the end of the game.

 

Turner scored 27 points for the Firebirds. Bria White chipped in 17 points and six rebounds. Denikka Brent and Diamonique Carr both contributed 10  points each for the firebirds.

The Lady Bears travel to Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina, on Saturday, November 29, 2014. Game time is 2 p.m.
