RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University softball team fell in two games against Division III opponent Meredith College at the Meredith Softball Complex Thursday afternoon. The Lady Bears fell 4-0 in the first game and 8-0 in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Lady Bears (0-4) offense had a quiet day, going down in order. Sophomore Amanda Ortiz (Tucsan, AZ) started in the circle for Shaw in game one and would suffer the loss, allowing eight hits, two walks and three errors.
The Angels batted two runs in the first inning and one in both the second and fourth inning. Three different Lady Bears tallied a hit in the first game but it would not be enough to force a comeback for Shaw.
In game two of the doubleheader, Meredith made it on the board first in the bottom of the first. The Angels then padded three more runs in the bottom of the third and fourth inning before adding one after a wild pitch from Shaw in the bottom of the six that ultimately sealed the win for the home team in six innings played.
Shaw got their lone hit from senior Sheniqua Fahie (British Virgin Islands) as she would also take the loss on the mound.
The Lady Bears will return to action on Feb. 27 at St. Andrews for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Laurinburg, N.C.
