RALEIGH, NC – Shaw University softball was swept by Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) foe Johnson C. Smith University on Sunday afternoon by scores of 9-0 in game one and then 10-0 in the day's second game. The Lady Bears couldn't find any offense as Shaw struggled to produce runs against the Golden Bulls after being held to just three hits combined in the doubleheader loss.
In game one, JCSU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first two innings. The Golden Bulls would then tack on five sparked by a homerun from Tia Mahoney in the top of the fifth as Shaw would not have an answer in the bottom.
In game two, Shaw trailed 2-0 after Morgan Hasty homered in the first inning. JCSU would plate one run in the third, three in the fourth and four in the fifth. Shaw had runners left on base throughout the contest but was unable to find its offense rhythm to remain scoreless in five innings.
With the losses, Shaw (6-23) drops to 4-6 in the CIAA while JCSU (11-12) improves to 6-4 in league action. The Lady Bears will to turn things around when they travel to rival Saint Augustine's University on Saturday, Apr. 8. First pitch is slated for 12 noon.
