RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University softball team returns home to host Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contests with a four-game home slate against Livingstone and Johnson C. Smith beginning Saturday at Worthdale Park.

Shaw will face the Lady Blue Bears of LC (1-9, 0-4 CIAA) on Saturday, Apr. 1 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., following its home finale versus the Golden Bulls of JCSU (9-10, 4-2 CIAA) on Sunday, Apr. 2 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for senior day. The Lady Bears will recognize two seniors in between games.

As a team, the Lady Bears average .243 at the plate, including a .336 on base clip and .305 slugging percentage. Shaw has scored just 85 runs on the season and two home runs in 25 games this year. In a hunt to make an appearance in the CIAA Softball Championships, the Lady Bears will need to get four wins this weekend to get things going in the division race. Shaw currently stands fifth within the division with a 4-21 record overall and 2-4 mark in the league.

Offensively, sophomore Kiana Rogers (Fort Atkinson, WI) has a team-best .294 batting average. Rogers has registered 15 hits, five doubles, one triple, 11 RBI's, one home run and seven runs scored. Freshman Alex Masnica (Chicago, IL) has also recorded 11 RBI's on the year. The 5-foot-6 catcher has 13 hits, three doubles and has scored seven runs on the season thus far.

Shaw enters the weekend having lost to both Chowan, 8-0 and Virginia State, 7-4 on Wednesday. The Lady Bears combined for just four hits and seven errors in the two games.

As for its opponents, LC is still in search of its first conference win on the season. The Lady Blue Bears are coming off road losses to Benedict, 0-13, 0-20 Tuesday. JCSU enters the weekend on a high after sweeping Elizabeth City State, 8-0 (6 innings), 15-3 (5 innings) last Saturday.
