SOFTBALL FALLS TWICE TO CLOSE OUT CIAA ROUND-UP
CHARLOTTE, NC – After a 2-0 start to start the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Round-up, the Shaw University Lady Bears fell twice on Sunday morning to both Bowie State, 3-0 and Virginia Union, 7-3 at Nevin Community Park. The losses drop the Lady Bears (4-19) conference record to 2-2 on the season.

GAME 1: Shaw (0) – Bowie State (3)

The Bulldogs (5-8, 2-1 CIAA) led 1-0 over Shaw in the first inning when Inaya Jones tripled to right field, scoring Ja'Seph Smith. BSU would then tally one run in both the third and fourth inning as Shaw was left scoreless.

The Lady Bears were responsible for six hits and two errors for the contest. Bailey Nixon (Denison, TX) accounted for the loss, she struck out four and walked one.

GAME 2: Shaw (3) – Virginia Union (7)

Shaw two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Lady Bears held on to the margin until the top of the sixth when VUU (1-7, 1-2 CIAA) responded, tying the game at 2-even.

In the bottom of the sixth, Sheniqua Fahie (British Virgin, Islands) scored thanks to VUU's miscue but the Lady Panthers caught fire in the seventh as they scored five runs to lead 7-3 over Shaw. The Lady Bears would not find their offensive groove when they needed it most after accounting for just one hit and one runner left on.

Kline was 2-for-3 at the plate and one RBI. On the mound, Fahie took the loss on the mound. She allowed four hits and walked two.

Shaw will make up the contests with Chowan and Virginia State. A date and time for those contests is forthcoming.
