LADY BEARS SOFTBALL JOURNEY TO CHARLOTTE FOR CIAA ROUND-UP

RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University softball team will take part in this weekend's Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up held at the Nevin Community Park located at 6000 Statesville Road in Charlotte, NC beginning on Friday, March 17 through Sunday, March 19, hosted by Johnson C. Smith.

 

Admission and parking is free. Fans are asked to bring lawn chairs due to limited seating at the fields.

 

After coming off a 1-7 finish at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in N. Myrtle Beach, SC, the Lady Bears (2-17, 0-0 CIAA) will look to build some morale heading into conference action. Shaw will face CIAA Northern Division opponents Virginia State, Lincoln (Pa.), Elizabeth City State, Chowan, Bowie State and Virginia Union over the course of the three-day event.

 

The Lady Bears open play Friday afternoon, taking on LU (1-5, 0-0 CIAA) at 1 p.m. on Field 4. The Lady Lions stand third in the Northern Division standings. Following the opening game, Shaw will meet ECSU (1-12, 0-0 CIAA) at 3 p.m. also on Field 4 to conclude day one.

 

Saturday at 11 a.m., the Garnett and White will play the Trojans of VSU (2-12, 0-0 CIAA) on Field 4 and end the day versus the Hawks of Chowan (15-13, 0-0 CIAA) at 3 p.m. on Field 3 at 3 p.m.

 

Sunday, Shaw will go head-to-head with BSU (2-6, 0-0 CIAA) at 10 a.m. (Field 1) before a battle with the Lady Panthers of VUU (0-2, 0-0 CIAA) at noon on Field 1 to conclude the round-up.

 

Freshman Bailey Nixon (Denison, TX) leads the Lady Bears offense, batting .273 this season. In 15 appearances sophomore Kiana Rogers (Fort Atkinson, WI) is second on the team with a .263 clip.

 

Following this weekend's action, Shaw will return home to host a four-game stand with Livingstone (Apr. 1) and Johnson C. Smith (Apr. 2) in a CIAA Southern Division doubleheader slated to begin at 1 p.m.
