Shaw Softball Challenge to Begin Saturday
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Thirty-three plastic totes filled the lobby of Shaw's C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium Thursday as members of the Shaw University Booster Club assembled the hospitality packages that would greet each team as they arrived in Raleigh on Friday ahead of the Second Annual Shaw University Softball Challenge.
Each tote contained items that ranged from snacks to lip balm to tourist guides for local attractions. The 33 teams participating are coming from as far away as Ohio, northern Pennsylvania, and Georgia.
The teams will start arriving Friday for the challenge, which will feature action on nine fields all day Saturday and Sunday. The Challenge was originally scheduled to begin on Friday, but was pushed back because of the threat of incoming inclement weather.
There are six sessions scheduled for Saturday, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the final session beginning at 7:00 p.m. Four sessions will be held on Sunday, again beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the final session starting at 3:00 p.m. In all, 79 games will be played.
The Challenge will be played at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex at 1201 Sunnybrook Road in Raleigh. Admission is free and open to the public.
