Shaw University announced Nadia Alexander-Pompey as the new head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field coach at Shaw University Friday, July 22, 2016.

In Alexander-Pompey's first year at the helm of the men's and women's cross country teams, the Bears finished the season fifth at the 2016 CIAA Cross Country Championships, while the Lady Bears concluded their season ninth at the CIAA Championships. Under Alexander-Pompey's leadership, the women's outdoor track and field team season had a oustanding year, highlighted by two athletes being named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region Team, one athlete placing third for a bronze medal and the Lady Bears finishing seventh at the CIAA Championships. 

In addition, the Lady Bears won two events at the Wingate Invitiational and Alexander-Pompey and her coaching staff were responsible for having one athlete qualify for nationals and garner an NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Second Team All-American honor at the NCAA DII Championships. One athlete was also named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.

Coach Alexander-Pompey joins the Bears and Lady Bears after spending the past three years as the Assistant Track and Field/Cross Country Coach at Lincoln (Pa.) University. During her tenure at Lincoln, she oversaw field events and has coached four NCAA DII National qualifiers (Shot-Put, Discus, & Long Jump), five CIAA Conference Champions (Shot-Put & Discus) and 1 CIAA Outdoor track and Field MVP athlete.   

In addition, Alexander-Pompey has coached one third place finisher (Women’s Indoor High Jump), and 17 All-CIAA top eight performances honorees.   Academically, she had the privilege of coaching two Academic All-Americans and the 2015 women’s track & field team that earned All-Academic Team Honors by having a team GPA of over a 3.0.

Previously, Alexander-Pompey served on the Virginia State University coaching staff from 2011-2013. During her tenure at VSU, she coached 29 All-CIAA performances including two CIAA Champions and 12 top-three performers.  Her student-athletes at VSU broke four school records; men's indoor shot-put, men's outdoor shot-put, men's discus, and men's Javelin. While at VSU, she was responsible for the weight workouts for her throwers and supervised the weight workouts for the entire track and field team.

Prior to her coaching career, Alexander-Pompey was a member of the Lady Techsters Track and Field Team where she was a three-time Western Athletic Conference Champion for Louisiana Tech University. She currently holds the Indoor (16.34m – 53’6”) and Outdoor (16.68m-54’8’’) Women’s Shot Put records. In her collegiate competitions, she placed 10th in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2009.

Internationally, she was a finalist in the shot put at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India while representing her home country of Jamaica. She was also sixth in the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in 2010 (Puerto Rico) and ninth in the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil.

Alexander-Pompey earned the USATF Level 1 Coaching Certification and USTFCCCA Specialist Certification 304 in the Throwing Events.

A graduate from Louisiana Tech University, she earned a degree in General Studies with a concentration in Social Sciences. Additionally, she received her Master’s degree in Sport Management from Virginia State University in 2012.
