Track Teams Set Season-Bests At Penn Relays
(Philadelphia, PA) - The Shaw track teams competed in the prestigious Penn Relays this past weekend, facing some of the country's top Division I programs, as well as facing off against familiar CIAA foes.
Close to 100 programs compete in the event - primarily division one programs. The event - which consists only of relay races runs multiple heats with time - not necessarily head-to-head competition - deciding the winner.
The Bears and Lady Bears brought home season-best times in two events. In the men's 4x200 meter relay team ofNuri Hasan, Clinton Rogers, Carrington Jones, and Eric Simmons finished with a time of 1:30.12, good enough for 49th place (out of 69 teams). The time beat teams from Army, Saint Paul's and Utica.
For the women, the 4x100 meter team of Shareka Mitchell, Cherelle Williams, Delilah Badget and Chloe Frame finished in 48.26 seconds - their season best - good for 58th (out of 95 teams). The outstanding time put the Lady Bears ahead of Division I schools such as Navy, Yale, Howard, James Madison, Temple and UDC.
