ATLANTA, Ga. – The Shaw University men's tennis team finished seventh overall at the 17th Annual HBCU National Tennis Championships amongst Division I and Division II institutions hosted by the Southeast Metro Athletic Council at the South Fulton Tennis Center from Thursday-Saturday Sept. 14-16.
The Bears tallied a total of eight points for seventh place out of 11 teams that featured just three Division II institutions.
In doubles action, the Bears made it to the semifinals round behind junior Daniel AC (Kikinda, Serbia) and freshman Oscar Del Granado (Santa Cruz, Bolivia). The duo was defeated by Jackson State's Stlianos Gkontsa5ris and Vishu Prasad, 8-2.
Del Granado defeated his opponent 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 in the quarterfinal to reach the semifinals in singles competition but suffered a 6-1, 6-0 setback to NCCU's Gabriel Cucalon.
JSU earned first place (18 points, 4-2), following NCCU (18 points, 4-4) for second and Bluefield State (18 points, 3-5) for third overall.
