BEARS SHUT DOWN VIRGINIA UNION, 7-0 FOR SENIOR DAY

RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University men's tennis team defeated Virginia Union University, 7-0 at Worthdale Park for its home finale and senior day Thursday afternoon. The Bears swept singles competition and took two of three in doubles to earn its fifth overall.

Shaw (5-4) honored four seniors before the match, including Diego Choque (Tarija, Bolivia), Guido Margiotta (Coronel, Suarez), Thomas Spada (Piracicaba, Brazil) and Bach Tran (Leipzig, Germany).

Tran and Choque earned an 8-1 doubles victory over VUU at No. 1 doubles. Tran went on to grab a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set victory at No. 1 singles. Margiotta and Mauricio Gonzalez (Leon, Mexico) defeated the Panthers at No. 2 doubles, 8-0.

In other singles action, Margiotta claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win over VUU at the No. 2 spot. Fellow teammate Daniel AC (Kikinda, Serbia) took a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles while Gonzalez tallied a 6-1, 6-0 margin at the No. 4 spot. Spada would round out the contest with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 slot.

Shaw will now travel to West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, April 8 for a match scheduled for 2 p.m.
