RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University men's tennis team jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles and then dominated to win each six singles matches for a 9-0 victory over Johnson C. Smith University at Lions Park. The win improves the Bears to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the CIAA, while JCSU drops to 0-15 and 0-7 in the league.
Guido Margiotta (Ceronel Suzarez, Argentina) and Marico Gonzalez (Leon, Mexico) set the tone with an 8-0 victory at the No. 3 doubles. Diego Choque (Tarija, Bolivia) and Javier Saez (Concepcion, Chile) followed with an 8-0 win before Daniel Ac (Kikinda, Serbia) and Bach Tran (Leipzig, Germany) battled for an 8-3 win over Tarick Miller and Sharif Axam.
In singles, the Bears had no problem dominating Golden Bulls as Shaw won all singles matches with scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Shaw will return to action on Sunday, April 3 versus Virginia State University as a makeup contest in Murfreesboro, NC. First serve is slated for 10 a.m.
