Tennis Teams Prepare for NCAA Tournament
(Raleigh, NC) – The Shaw men's and women's tennis teams are preparing for NCAA Tournament play that begins May 6. The men will travel to Buckhannon, WV, to take on Bloomsburg. Meanwhile, the women will travel to Slippery Rock, PA, to take on Indiana (PA).
Men – The Shaw men's team earned their NCAA berth with their sixth straight CIAA title, and makes their fifth straight appearance in the NCAA field. They finished their season 21-6 and will take on Bloomsburg, who finished their season 11-8, on May 6. This is the first match ever between Shaw and Bloomsburg.
The winner of the Shaw-Bloomsburg match will take on the winner of the match between host West Virginia Wesleyan and Charleston (WV). Earlier this season, the Bears lost to Charleston 5-4.
The winner of this four-team Atlantic Region #1 pod will advance to the 16-team NCAA finals to be held in Altamonte, FL, May 12-15.
Women – The Lady Bears earned their NCAA berth with their second straight CIAA crown, and make their second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. They finished their season 22-4 and enter the five-team Atlantic Region #2 pod. They take on Indiana (PA), who finished their season 16-8, on May 6.
The winner of the Shaw-Indiana match will take on host Slippery Rock on May 7. Bloomsburg and West Virginia Wesleyan fill out the five-team pod. The winner of the pod will advance to the 16-team NCAA finals to be held in Altamonte, FL, May 12-15.
