DURHAM, N.C. – The Shaw University men's soccer team came away with a 3-2 victory over Salem University Monday afternoon at Durham County Memorial Stadium. Senior Thilo Wilke's (Karlstadt, Germany) late goal at the 82nd minute provided the Bears with the 3-2 edge.
The Bears took an early lead in the first half after freshman Mortiz Lotzen (Hochberg, Germany) drained a goal from Sooma at the 10th minute. Salem tied the game at 1-1 when Mark Ferenczi-Bako scored at the 16:08 mark.
Junior Andre Matzuda (Gardena, CA) captured his sixth goal of the year with a header into the back of the net assisted by Sooma. Shaw would lead 2-1 at halftime.
Throughout the second half, neither teams could find a goal until sophomore Antonio Nelson (Trinidad and Tobago) found Wilke for a goal pass the goalkeeper for the game winner.
For the contest, both team registered 15 shots each, Wilke led the way with four shots, two on goal while freshman Theo Delaleu (Les Essarts Le Roi, France) recorded seven saves in 90:00 of work.
Shaw will return to action Wednesday, Oct. 31 for it regular season finale against Piedmont International at the MAC. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
