RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's and women's soccer programs will conclude their inaugural first season on Tuesday, Oct. 31 when both the Bears and Lady Bears travel to Washington Adventist for their season finale. The women's match will begin at 12 noon, followed by the men's game at 2 p.m. in Tacoma Park, Md.

(W) Shaw at Washington Adventist: The Lady Bears (3-10-1) are coming off a 2-2 draw at Brevard Saturday, Oct. 28. Both teams battled hard in a rain-soaked game for 110 minutes but neither teams were able to get a shot on goal in the extra time.

Freshman Leslie Mendoza (Miami Beach, FL) led the effort offensively with four shots, two on goal and one goal scored while freshman Chloe Cavness (Killen, TX) tallied one goal one shot.

Freshman goalkeeper Shianne Duplantis (West Palm Beach, FL) finished with nine saves.

As for the Shock (4-11) welcomes the Lady Bears after coming off a 7-3 loss to Gallaudet on Oct. 25. WAU registered 20 shots and 12 on target in the setback led by Karis Powell who finished with six shots, three on goal and one scored. Defensively, Laura Perez grabbed 12 saves at the goalkeeper position.

WAU is 2-5 at home this season.

(M) Shaw at Washington Adventist: The Bears will look to continue it winning momentum when they travel to WAU. In their last outing, the Bears downed Brevard by scoring two late goals in the last 10 minutes of the contest to secure the win. Junior Eric Huete (Alcobendas, Spain) scored the match's first goal, followed by his second goal at the 83rd minute and junior Thilo Wilke (Karlstadt, Germany) netted the game-winner at the 87th minute to give Shaw the victory.

The Bears tallied nine shots and four on target while the Tornados totaled 10 shots and five on goal. At the goalkeeper position, freshman Mynor Martinez (West Hampton, NY) recorded two saves.

WAU's men stands 10-6 overall and post a 4-5 mark at home this season. The Shock suffered a 1-0 defeat to Pitt-Johnstown on Oct. 27. Daniel Moreira accounted for five of the Shock's 22 shots and one on target. Reynero Pacheco added two saves in the loss.

Tuesday's matches will be the first-ever meetings between both the men's and women's programs.
