WILSON, N.C. - After a draw at Pfeiffer last week, the Shaw University men's soccer team traveled to Wilson to take on Barton College in a regular season contest that would not end in the Bears favor as the Bulldogs took it 2-0 over Shaw.
With the loss, the Bears stand 4-6-2 overall while the Bulldogs improve to 4-9-1 on the season.
Holding strong out the gate, the Bears battled off two shots and two corner kicks before the Bulldogs connected on the third strike from in the box to make a connection for the 1-0 lead in the 27th –minute of the first half.
The defense held back line the remainder of the second half forcing one offside in the Bears favor, but Barton would strike again in the 89th- minute to cap off the 2-0 victory over the Bears.
Sophomore Zola Mafolo Rodriguez (South London, England) and junior Thilo Wilke (Karlstadt, Germany) combined for four of the Bears nine shots while five different players accounted for one shot on goal. Freshman Mynor Martinez (West Hampton, NY) tallied four saves in the loss.
Shaw will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Brevard. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
