FRONT LOYAL, Va. – A balanced effort by the Shaw University men's soccer team gave the Bears a 6-1 win over Christendom College Saturday, Oct. 7. The win improved the Bears to 4-5-1 on the season while the Crusaders fell to 7-4 on the year.
Shaw scored three goals in the first half, following a 3-1 advantage in the second to secure the win. Offensively, the Bears charted 21 shots, 11 on goal as sophomore Enrico Baldon (Sao Paulo, Brazil) notched a game-high two goals including the game's first score at the 12th minute.
Baldon scored again at the 28th minute while sophomore Charles Showers (New Carrollton, MD) added to the Bears lead 4-0 at the 50th minute. The Crusaders would prevent a shutout when James Salmon scored at the 53rd minute but Shaw would score two more to stamp the victory led by sophomore Fernando Lisboa (Piracicaba, Brazil) and freshman Steven Leigh (Golborne, Manchester) who both chipped in a goal each.
The Bears held the Crusaders to six goals and three on goal for the contest. Freshman Santiago Farre (Barcelona, Spain) finished with two saves defensively for Shaw.
The Bears will return to action at Pfeiffer on Thursday, Oct. 12 for a 5 p.m. match.
