MARIETTA, Ga. – The Shaw University men's soccer team fought hard but fell to Life University by a 4-3 decision on Sunday afternoon. The Bears were outshot 23-16 for the game, including a 10-8 disadvantage for shot on goals.
Junior Thilo Wilkes (Karlstadt, Germany) took eight shots and registered four shot on goals. He scored all three goals for the Bears, making that his career total five on the season.
The Running Eagles (5-3) scored first at the 20:59 mark but Wilke's would chart two goals, including one at the 32nd minute and another at the 39th minute as the Bears (1-3-1) led 2-1 at halftime.
In the second half at the 61st minute, Life scored a goal to tie the contest at 2-2 before stealing the lead three minutes later on a goal from Wessley Soronellas. Facing a 4-2 deficit, the Bears battled back and cut the lead to one with another goal from Wilke at the 72nd minute. Shaw had an opportunity to tie the game but in the 77th minute, Life made a save off of Thiago Sooma's (Sao Paulo, Brazil) kick that would prevail them to win over the Bears.
The Bears will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 21 at Carlow University. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
