HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Shaw University men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback to Coker College on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Coker Athletic Field. The loss drops the Bears to 0-1-1 on the season while the Cobras get their first win on the season with an overall record 1-1.
For the contest, Shaw tallied eight shots total compared to the Cobras 21.
"We never had fluent possession of the ball today," added head coach Luis Cortell. "We lost the ball in key areas where we got exposed in the counter. Unfortunately, we have too many young players that need to develop a fee for the ball so we will concentrate on that for the next two weeks."
Junior Thilo Wilke (Karlstadt, Germany) led the Bears offensively with a match-high four shots, including three shot on goals. Defensively, freshman Santiago Farre (Barcelona, Spain) registered five saves as the Bears as a unit recorded seven saves.
Coker scored the game's first goal from Robbie Jenkinson at the 22:41 mark. He would score again in the second at the 66th minute. The Cobras have several players earn shots, including Jenkinson who accounted for four.
Shaw will return to action on Sept. 13 at Belmont Abbey. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
