FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Shaw University men's soccer team tied with Emmanuel College in its season opener after two overtime periods, 1-1 Friday night on the road. After the conclusion of the match, both teams moved to 0-0-1.
Shaw took the game's first lead of the evening on a goal from Thilo Wilke (Karlstadt, Germany) assisted by Theo Newton (London, England) at the 24:24 mark of the first half.
The Lions would respond in the second half when Val Evans placed the ball in back of the net. Shaw was responsible for three shot on goals compared EC's 14.
The Bears were outshot by the Lions, 21-6 but Santiago Farre (Barcelona, Spain) made nine saves on the night for Shaw. Andy Dunnett made two stops for the home team.
Shaw will return to action on Sept. 9 at Coker with a start time scheduled for 7 p.m.
