MEN’S SOCCER GEARS UP FOR 2017 SEASON ON THE ROAD

RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University men's soccer team is set for their historic season opener on the road when they travel to Emmanuel College for the first ever men's soccer game on Friday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. in Franklin Springs, Ga.

The game will offer live statistics and video on www.shawbears.com.

Similar to the Lady Bears soccer program, the Bears will look to capitalize on their roster that features eight juniors, six sophomores and three freshmen.

"We have a core group of transfer student-athletes that will give us some experience," head coach Luis Cortell stated. "Right now we do not have a team identity but game by game we will be able to determine who we are as a team and be able to compete at the Division II level."

Emmanuel, a member of the Conference Carolinas Association (CCA) finished the 2016 slate with a 15-8 overall record. The Lions posted a 6-4 mark against league opponents as their roster includes 17 upperclassmen. EC is led by Scott Borchers in his 11th season.

Following Friday's contest, Shaw will travel to Coker on Sept. 9 with a start time scheduled for 7 p.m.
