Simmons is in his third season as an assistant coach with the Shaw University Men’s Basketball Program. He joined the Bears after five highly-successful seasons on the grassroots travel basketball circuit as a head coach with the Jacksonville Nets organization and then program director/head coach of team Jacksonville Elite based in Jacksonville,Fla.
Additionally, Simmons has coached over 30 student-athletes who went on to sign college basketball scholarships at Division I or Division II institutions from April 2011 - June 2015.
Before the 2017-2018 season, Simmons was elevated to Offensive Coordinator and the Bears finished among the Top-75 nationally in four categories (PPG, FG%, FT Made, FT Attempted) while leading the CIAA conference in PPG & FG% while finishing second overall in FT Made and FT Attempted. The Bears finished with four players in the Top-20 for scoring average in the CIAA.
A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Simmons is known as a tireless worker within the basketball program in all aspects (academics, recruiting, office administrator and video/scouting coordinator) whom has very strong recruiting ties throughout the southeast region but especially in the state of Florida.
Simmons was a four-year member of the boys’ basketball team at Jean Ribault Senior High School in Jacksonville, Fla., under the leadership of legendary head coach Bernard Wilkes - the all-time winningest boys coach in the history of Florida High School Basketball. Simmons played the point guard position where he led Ribault to back-to-back state final appearances and served as team captain his senior year.
Simmons holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Management from Shaw University.
