RALEIGH, N.C. - Shaw University men's basketball standouts and seniors Savon Goodman (Philadelphia, PA) and DeAngelo Stephens-Bell (Jacksonville, FL) were both selected to the BOXTOROW First Team All-Americans announced on Apr. 5.
Both Goodman and Stephens-Bell were named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) Second-Team All-State last week. The duo of Goodman and Stephens-Bell was an instrumental piece to the Bears 20-9 overall record, 12-4 in the CIAA and members of the Southern Division co-champion title during the 2017-18 season.
Stephens-Bell started 27-of-29 games this past season, leading the team in scoring with an 18.8 points per game scoring average, while grabbing 6.0 rebounds per game and 5.0 assists per outing. The 6-foot-2, All-CIAA guard ranked second amongst the conference in scoring and assists and eighth in the league in rebounds. Stephens-Bell scored 28 times in double figures, including a career-high 36 points against Lock Haven (No. 11). In addition, Stephens-Bell recorded a career-high nine assists in two games as well as a career-high 13 rebounds in two contests to go along with two CIAA Player of the Week recognitions.
Goodman, meanwhile, finished his collegiate career as the Bears leading rebounder with 9.6 rebounds per game (2nd in the CIAA). The All-CIAA forward also led Shaw in field goal percentage and ranked third amongst the CIAA at 57.1-percent.Goodman registered 11 double-doubles during the season, including 14 games with at least 10 rebounds and 24 games in double digit scoring. His best game of the 2017-18 campaign was a 36-point performance to go along with 15 rebounds against Washington Adventist. Additionally, Goodman garnered CIAA Newcomer of the Week five times and received CIAA Player of the Week once.
BOXTOROW has administered the All-America teams since 2009. In addition, BOXTOROW currently airs on SiriusXM as well as 50 radio stations across the country.
