CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior guard Krishaun Myers (Pompano Beach, FL) hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 6.1 seconds left to help the Shaw University men's basketball team to a 78-75 victory over Johnson C. Smith University in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest Saturday afternoon inside BrayBoy Gymnasium.

The victory earned the Bears (20-8, 12-4 CIAA) a piece of the division title as they improve to 8-2 in the South. The Golden Bulls (18-10, 11-5 CIAA) dip to 8-2 in the South as well.

Because the Bears split the series against the Golden Bulls, Shaw will more than likely enter the 2018 CIAA Basketball Tournament as the No. 2 seed while JCSU will sit atop due to the point spread differential category.

Myers led all scorers with 21 points and seven rebounds. He was 8-of-9 from the foul line and connected 6-of-12 shots from the field. Senior guard DeAngelo Stephens-Bell (Jacksonville, FL) added 16 points and four rebounds while senior guard Cameron Golden, Sr. (Memphis, TN) chipped in 12 points and six assists. Sophomore guard DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) finished with 11 points in the win.

Both teams shot 50-percent from the field, 60-percent from the free throw line, and at least 30-percent from the 3-point line. Shaw outscored JCSU's bench, 31-8, 10-3 in fast breaks and scored 22 points off of the Golden Bulls 16 miscues.

JCSU led 8-2 over Shaw to begin the game, a 3-pointer by Kelsie closed the gap to three but JCSU responded with a jumper from Robert Davis to extend the Golden Bulls lead 10-5 over Shaw with 16:55 in the first half.

The Bears would trail by 13-points (28-15) after the Golden Bulls produced an 18-10 run at the 8:30 mark. Shaw then found some intensity to trim the lead to seven after Kelsie drains his third 3-pointer of the afternoon. From there, the Bears outscored JCSU 6-2 in the last 2:09 of the half to trail 38-32 at halftime.

In the second half, the game tied seven times and the lead changed 11 before a jumper from Golden, Sr. gave the game its final tie that led to 10-0 run for the Bears. It would appear as if Shaw would run away with the game but JCSU did not go away as they proceeded to score eight unanswered points with 20 seconds remaining in regulation. Myers would then come down the court and pull up at the top of the key and drain the 3-pointer with 6.1 seconds left, JCSU's attempt to respond would hit the back of the iron as Shaw pulled down the defensive rebound and the win.

Davis led the Golden Bulls in scoring with 18 points, three rebounds and two assists while Christian Kirchman produced 17 points, five assists and three rebounds. Arthur Bennett chipped in 14 points and six rebounds while Roddric Ross added 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

The 2018 CIAA Basketball Tournament will be held in Charlotte, NC at both the Bojangles Coliseum and the Spectrum Center beginning on Feb. 27 through Mar. 3.
