RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University men's basketball team (7-4, 2-0 CIAA) returns to the court to close out the 2017 portion of the season with a non-conference tilt versus Barton College on Saturday, Dec. 30 at 4 p.m. inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.

The Bears have won five of their last six games and currently own a five-game win-streak with their most recent win at Washington Adventist on Dec. 17.


Offensively, Shaw puts up 83.6 points per game and shoots 48.5 percent from the field. From long distance, the Bears are responsible for 33.8-percent shooting and 74.0-percent at the free-throw line. Shaw has four players averaging double figure scoring led by senior Krishaun Myers (Pompano Beach, FL) with 22.0 points in just three games played so far.


Senior and CIAA Player of the Week - DeAngelo Stephens-Bell (Jacksonville, FL) posts 19.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and a team-high 5.6 assists a night while senior Savon Goodman (Philadelphia, PA) registers 17.6 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds per outing. Sophomore DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) rounds out the double figure scoring for the Bears with 16.1 points – he leads the team in 3-pointers this season with 48 total on the season, shooting 42.1-percent.


Shaw is 4-2 at home this season.


As for the Bulldogs, Barton (7-4, 3-0 CC) heads to Spaulding also on a five-game win-streak. The Bulldogs are coming off a 100-97 win over Tusculum on Dec. 19.


In 11 games played, Barton averages 82.0 points per game while shooting 47.3-percent from the floor, 34.2-percent from the 3-point line and 74.4-percent from the charity stripe.


Michael Boykin leads the offensive attack for the Bulldogs with a shooting average of 14.7 points while Jeff Gordon and Bobby Stenborg put up 14.4 and 14.3 points. Isaiah Buck-Lowman adds 12.0 points to round out double figure scoring for BC. Stenborg and Buck-Lowman tally 5.8 rebounds per contest.


The Bulldogs are 1-2 on the road this season.


This will be the fourth meeting between the two programs as Barton leads the all-time series with a record of 2-1. The last time the two teams met was during the 2012-13 season where Shaw defeated the Bulldogs 91-86 on Dec. 3, 2012.
