RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's basketball team will host Salem International University on Tuesday, Nov. 14 for their home opener inside the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

The Bears are coming off a triumph victory over Lock Haven Saturday at the 2017 Wolf's Bus Lines Classic in Shippensburg, Pa. Shaw went 1-1 at the classic, falling to No. 8 Shippensburg, 65-53 but turning things around day two against the Bald Eagles to earn a 78-70 victory. Senior DeAngelo Stephens-Bell (Jacksonville, FL) scored a career-high 36 points to go along with 10 rebounds in that contest; he was named to the All-Tournament Team for his performances.
In just two games played so far on the young season, Shaw is averaging 61.5 points per game and shooting 42.7-percent from the field, including 70-percent from the free-throw line while posting 35.5 rebounds per outing and 6.5 assists a game.
The Tigers enter Tuesday's game with a 1-0 record on the season. SIU is coming off a 92-77 win over Kentucky State Saturday. Malik Toppin finished with 30 points and 16 rebounds to the lead the offensive attack for the Tigers.
Following Tuesday's clash, Shaw will host a conference challenge on Friday, Nov. 17 and Saturday, Nov. 18 featuring Winston-Salem State University, Fort Valley State University and Morehouse College. Game times are 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on both days.
