MEN’S BASKETBALL TO TIP-OFF 2017-18 SEASON AT WOLF’S BUS LINES CLASSIC

RALEIGH, N.C. – Under the leadership of Joel Hopkins in his fourth season, the Shaw University men's basketball program will begin its 2017-18 season this weekend with a pair of games in the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic hosted by Shippensburg University at the Heiges Field House Friday, Nov. 10 and Saturday, Nov. 11.

Admission is $10 for adults, senior citizens is $5 and students are $5. Children (5 and under) are free.

The Bears will face Shippensburg on Friday at 8 p.m.; following a contest with Lock Haven on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Shaw comes off a 14-13 campaign with a 10-6 record in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Conference while also capturing the Southern Division title for the first time in five years. The Bears return five players from last year, including one starter in DeAngelo Stephens-Bell (Jacksonville, FL) who played in all 27 games while starting 15 for the Bears. He averaged 7.6 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per outing and 2.8 assists per outing.

In addition, Shaw has four Division I transfers in senior Cameron Golden, Sr. (Memphis, TN), senior Savon Goodman (Philadelphia, PA), senior Rahim Williams (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore Hari Hall (Jacksonville, FL) whom are all expected to produce this season for the Bears.

Ranked No. 8 in the Preseason NABC Coach Poll, Shippensburg a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) will look to affirm their status after going 24-7 last season and winning their second conference championship led by head coach Chris Fite in his fifth season. The Raiders are led by Dustin Selva who averaged a team-high 21.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game last season. He was named to the NABC First-Team All-American and named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Year.

Lock Haven, also a member of the PSAC enters the tournament looking to improve on last year's 13-14 record. Amir Hinton returns to lead the Bald Eagles; he averaged 23.8 points per game and is the reigning PSAC East Freshman of the Year and All-Region selection. LHU is led by Mike Nestor in his seventh season at the helm.

Following this weekend's games, the Bears will host Salem International in their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
