RALEIGH, NC – Saturday, Feb. 18 marks the regular-season home finale for the Shaw University men's and women's basketball teams. The Bears and Lady Bears host the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division doubleheader.
The women's game begins at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m. Prior to the start of the men's game, Shaw will honor a total of eight student-athletes with a brief ceremony.

The Bears are riding a 73-63 win against Fayetteville State on Wednesday night. The victory clinched a division title for the men's program for the first time in five years in head coach Joel Hopkins second year back at the helm. Shaw is 13-12 overall, 9-6 in the league and 7-2 within the division.
Shaw starts three seniors, and are led in scoring by senior Benji Bell (Gainesville, FL) and four-year letterman Larry Richardson, II (Garner, NC) who average 17.4 and 12.3 points, respectively. Senior and two-year letterman Joshua Cassady (Raleigh, NC) post 9.6 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per outing, while senior and four-year letterman DeAaron Ward (Wilson, NC) adds 6.5 boards per contest and 4.6 points.
The Lady Bears women's hoops is coming off a 74-55 loss at Fayetteville State in its last outing. Shaw (10-17, 7-8 CIAA) is currently in fourth place in the South with a 5-4 mark. Head coach Jacques Curtis' squad will honor just one senior on Saturday – Imani Heggins (Chesapeake, VA) whom have been a member of the squad for one season.
Shaw swept its doubleheader versus JCSU last season, with the women winning 93-74 and the men capturing a 108-93 decision. In the first meeting of the 2016-17 season, the Lady Bears fell at JCSU 75-68, before the men claimed a 66-63 triumph win in Charlotte, NC back on Jan. 28.
Following Saturday games, Shaw will await the seeding of the 2017 CIAA Basketball Tournament at the Bojangles Colseium and Spectrum Center in Charlotte, NC.
