MIAMI SHORES, FL – The Shaw University men's basketball team suffered its first loss on the season by the hands of No. 8 Barry University by a margin of 95-70 Friday in the first game of the Cesar Odio Thanksgiving Classic. With the loss, Shaw stands 3-1 on the season and Barry remains unbeaten at 4-0 overall. Shaw never led the entire contest as the Bears largest deficit was 43 points.
The Bears will conclude the Classic with a matchup versus Young Harris Saturday at 4 p.m.
David Madol (Manchester, NH) led the Bears in scoring with 19 points off of 6-for-8 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-3 from the three-point line and 4-for-4 from the foul line. Khaliq Williams (Jacksonville, FL) added 15 points and DaVaughn Kelsie (Richmond, VA) chipped in 12 points off the bench for Shaw.
Madol recorded a team-best six rebounds and four steals while Williams dished out five assists.
For the contest, Shaw came in averaging over 50 boards per outing; however, the Bears were outrebounded by the Bucs 40-29. The Bears shot 36.1 percent (22-for-61) from the floor and 29.6 percent (8-for-27) from the charity stripe. Barry held advantages in points in the paint 34-24, fast break points (15-8) and bench points, 31-29.
