Shaw Tournament Times, Brackets Announced
[Hampton, VA] - The CIAA today released the final CIAA Tournament bracket. The Shaw women's basketball team will open play Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. while the men will tip at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The Lady Bears earned their bye as the top seed in the CIAA's Southern Division. They will open tournament play against the winner of the matchup between Elizabeth City State and Saint Augustine's. The Shaw women go into the tournament with a 20-6 record overall, 15-1 in the CIAA and 9-1 in the division.
The men earned their bye as the top seed by going undefeated in the conference - the first time a team has done that since 1992-93. On the men's side, the lower end of the bracket will open with a matchup between Saint Augustine's and Lincoln (PA) on Tuesday. Wednesday, the winner of that contest will play Fayetteville State. That winner will then face Shaw on Thursday.
The Bears go into the tournament ranked sixth in the nation and with a 24-2 record overall and the unblemished 16-0 mark within the conference and 10-0 in the division.
