RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University football will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 22 when the Bears travel to Buies Creek, NC to face Campbell University. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Saturday's contest will mark the first meeting between Shaw and Campbell.
Shaw (1-1) enters Saturday's game seeking to gain momentum again after week 3's home opener and conference game against Chowan was cancelled due to Hurricane Florence. The Bears are led by sophomore wide receiver Daniel Bender (Jacksonville, FL) who has 171 receptions yards and two touchdowns while senior quarterback Keon Marsh (Queens, NY) has 413 yards on 35-of-56 pass completions and three touchdowns. Defensively, junior linebacker Devon Hunt (Hamlet, NC) post 26 tackles and averages 13.0 tackles per game, followed by sophomore linebacker Jaleel Scroggins (Raleigh, NC) with nine tackles per outing.
The Camels are 2-1 on the season after coming off a 58-21 setback to Coastal Carolina Wednesday. Campbell found the end zone on the first possession en route to a 21-10 lead but the Camels would be outscored in three quarters down the stretch. Daniel Smith owns 695 yards and five touchdown passing, adding 109 yards and three more scores for the Camels. Rocky Reid has a team-high 199 rushing yards and two touchdowns while Caleb Sneed has 227 yards receiving and three scores. Defensively, Jack Ryan has led Campbell with 24 stops.
Following Saturday night's tilt, Shaw will travel to Petersburg, Va., to face the defending CIAA Champions – Virginia State University on Sept. 29 at 6 p.m.
