RALEIGH, N.C. – After wrapping up a great senior season as the Bears starting wide receiver, Trevante Long of the Shaw University football team will compete in the 4th Annual FCS Bowl on Dec. 8-10, 2017 in Daytona, Fla.
Long received the invitation to compete in the bowl game on Oct. 26 and looks forward to playing with top athletes from the NCAA Division I and II levels. "I am very blessed and honored to receive an invitation to participate in the FCS Bowl game," Long stated.
"I plan to go to the game and represent Shaw University football on and off the field, my goal is to not only make a name for myself but to show scouts that HBCU DII football has pro talent and those individuals can also find pro talent at Shaw."
The Greenbelt, Md., native will be one of the few Division II athletes invited to participate in the largely FCS-level event.
Long became the all-time leader in receptions in school history as a junior. He finished with 147 total receptions. Long concluded his senior campaign with 41 receptions for 445 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 4.1 catches a game and 10.9 yards per outing. His best game this season came against New Haven where he hauled in 121 yards on five catches on Sept. 2.
The FCS National Bowl is an annual post-season college football all-star game consisting of the top players from college football FCS schools. The inaugural FCS National Bowl was played in December 2014 at FIU Stadium and moved to Daytona Beach Stadium in Daytona Beach, FL in 2016, which is home to FCS Bethune-Cookman Football. The National Bowl and FCS Bowl all-star weekend for Non-FBS schools has been the only games of its kind to attract numerous NFL & CFL scouts.
