RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University will host cross-town rival Saint Augustine's University for its 2017 homecoming game in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division tilt on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Durham County Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 noon.
In addition, Saturday's contest also marks senior day, as the Bears will recognize 10 outstanding student-athletes prior to kickoff.
The Bears (3-6, 2-3 CIAA) will look to bounce back from their fifth-consecutive road loss of the season, welcoming SAU (4-5, 4-2 CIAA). Shaw fell at Winston-Salem State University 27-21 during week nine, allowing a late 20-rushing TD in overtime. The Falcons blanked Johnson C. Smith University 24-0 last weekend and is currently in the hunt for a birth in CIAA Championship on Nov. 11.

Leading the Bears: Senior quarterback Darron Downing (Portsmouth, VA), who has combined for 902 of Shaw's 2,281 total offense this season, leads the Bears. Downing has passed for six touchdown and is the team's third leading rusher with 258 yards. Senior Trevante Long (Greenbelt, MD) has hauled in 437 yards receiving with two touchdowns, while junior Uriah Bethea (Upper Marlboro, MD) have combined for 368 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.
Ranked among the best defenders in the CIAA, sophomore Devon Hunt (Rockingham, NC) owns a team-best 83 tackles for Shaw, averaging 9.2 tackles per game (2nd in CIAA). Freshman stud Jaleel Scroggins, whom was named CIAA Rookie of the Week and Defensive Back of the Week for the second time this season (week 9) adds 63 tackles and two interceptions.
Scouting Saint Augustine's: The Falcons have won three out of their last four games, including their homecoming win over JCSU Saturday, Oct. 28. SAU holds a 1-3 record on the road this season. Darryl Johnson has passed for 1,245 yards with 13 touchdowns, adding 98 rushing yards. Jeremiah Miller owns a team-best 696 yards rushing with five touchdowns while Sam Boyd leads the receiving unit with 416 yards and eight touchdowns.
James Hickman has collected 87 tackles with 10 tackle for loss, while Chasz Cosby has tallied 70 tackles, 11 tackle for loss, six sacks and two force fumbles.
This will be the 47th meeting between the two teams in program history. Shaw leads the all-time series 28-17-1. The Bears defeated the Falcons last season, 35-32 on the road to take the first-ever Raleigh Classic title.
Additionally, Saturday's contest will be themed as the Second Annual Raleigh Classic; the winner will be presented with the trophy by the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance back in Raleigh.
