CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Shaw University head football coach Adrian Jones and junior defensive lineman Keith Alston (Eggharbor City, NJ) were honored as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Coach of the Week, Defensive Lineman of the Week announced by the league Tuesday morning.
Under the leadership of coach Jones, the Bears football team earned their first conference win on the season Saturday, Sept. 30 after defeating Elizabeth City State, 23-17. Shaw now stands 1-1 within the league and 2-3 overall. This is Jones' second CIAA football coach of the week honor this season.
Alston received the CIAA honor for his performance against ECSU, posting seven tackles (4 solo), two sacks and two tackle for losses. This is Alston's first award on the season.
Shaw (2-3) will begin division play on the road when they travel to Fayetteville State University on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.
In addition, the office of sports information will hold a football press conference on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 12 noon in the dance studio located in the historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
